How Art Commissioning Process Works
Here are the fundamental procedures for designing and planning a custom painting by a contemporary Indian artist.
- Ideation
The client communicates their broad concept and preferences to the gallerist. The gallerist will also visit the client’s space, either in person or via video conference, to view and measure where the painting will hang. - Customization
The client, gallerist, artist, and designer collaborate as a team to choose the subject, colors, measurements, textures, and any other aspects to consider when creating a personalized piece. - Finalization
The customer and gallerist finalize the artist’s brief and confirm all details. - Preparation
Based on the client’s requirements, the artist creates an intermediate sketch of the painting and submits it to the client and gallerist for approval. - Production
Once the intermediate drawing has been accepted, the artist can begin working on the final painting. Commissioned paintings normally take two to three months to finish, depending on the artist’s availability and prior commitments. - Delivery
The gallery maintains constant communication with both the client and the artist until the painting is ready for delivery.
